About In Five Studios
In Five Studios is a personal project aimed at documenting the history and stories behind some of the world’s most famous and influential music labels. Understandably most people will imagine the most well known are in the United Kingdom and in the United States. We hope to give another side of the story though as every country produces it’s own music, whether it’s well known domestically or internationally.
Some of the studios are still with us, many are not. Many of the more influential ones are unknown to many people and others were absorbed into bigger labels to continue their work. Some morphed into other providers of entertainment – witness Sam Phillips from Sun Studios gradual loss of interest in recording and increase in production of radio shows.
We also write about the famous artists who built their careers at these labels and their humble roots. Some of the names of those behind the artists, the producers and songwriters may also be familiar.
